A Little About the boys @ NUKER
|
...>>>If you haven’t already gathered, NUKER stands for Northern Utah Killer Epic Ride. We are not here to promote every trail known to exist in the
state of Utah. We more or less like to concentrate our efforts on what we like to call ‘epics’. To some an epic might conjure up an image of some
death march to hell and back. Well, as some of our rides might be just that…we shoot for fun adventurous rides that take you to the middle of
nowhere and back. In our minds that is what core mtn biking is about…the adventure of discovering new places, with new & old friends and getting
back to celebrate the accomplishment of just ‘splorin’ as we like to call it.
...>>>We treasure new out of the ordinary rides…if you want to ride Slickrock in Moab, there are a thousand and one write ups about just that ride.
You won't see a review or pkg produced here on that ride. Why? Because it’s been done to death. Want obscure, look to us. Not saying all the rides
we do are obscure, no-one knows about rides, because they aren’t. There is another factor we look at … that being…the fun factor. We post pkgs. on
rides as short as 5-6 miles long, but because of the fun factor, might be considered an epic…just cause it’s a hoot to ride…A prime example is the
Shuman ride in the LaSal Mtns. Only about 5 miles long, but one killer piece of 1-trk. And part of the adventure is just getting there to find it.
...>>>We here at NUKER are very experienced riders and that is what drives us to the more unknown trails. I personally have been riding Mtn bikes
since 1982 when I bought my first, which was a Schwinn Sidewinder 10. Have been twisting throttles for longer than that. Was a motocrosser, then
expert desert racer(mid 80’s). Stopped racing MCs after achieving #1 over-30 expert, 5th overall desert in the state of Ut. in 1988. Pedaling has
totally taken over that space. Love it and love to promote it. But racing gave me skills that I could have never achieved by just riding. And my buddy
Space has been a Nukerboy on and off for yrs... kind of the unknown writer and rider, but also an accomplished MC rider and no slouch himself on
a mtn bike.
...>>>We have come to love the uphill for it’s quietness, demand, serenity and for the down to follow. We have been known to do shuttles, but would
prefer loops, out and backs that require only one vehicle. A lot of our premier rides are horrendous(as in tuff) uphills but come with horrendous(as
in fun) downhills.. 8 miles up w/3000’ climb and then 6 miles down w/3000’ descent…whew!!
...>>>All our rides are based off of GPS readings. So, every pkg is one we’ve personally had to ride to get tracks to create. The readings are as
accurate as the day the satellites took the pinpoint. I would say +-50’ in both the altitude and positioning. Only meant as a guide… you and yours
achieve the adventure…we just show you how to get to it. So, if on a ride, you are given a certain position and you can’t seem to find the actual
point, then look around within a parameter of 50-100 ft. It’s there. Altitude isn’t as crucial, only gives you bragging rights about how far and high
you went…But you do need a GPS of some sort to utilize our services to the fullest. We work with Garmin & MapSource. The routes are in GPX
format and interchange with most gps brands.
...>>>Bare in mind, our rides are geared more towards the advanced riders. Intermediates and beginners are invited, but need to know ahead of time,
the demands of this certain ride…No Whining if you go in other words. Just do it if you decide to…and be confident in your abilities. We can’t teach
you that. That is earned by experience…not whining…
...>>>That brings us to the ratings. On the text sheet, the ratings are based off of actually riding the trail ourselves. They are rated as to technical,
scenic & aerobic, so if it says a 5X flaming NUKER for aerobic…you can bet it’s a lung buster. As to the overall rating, this is based off of those
three ratings plus what we feel about the trail. Have seen rated 4, 4, 4, on text sheet and rated an overall of 5, simply because it’s probably a
killer ride... FUN and demanding.
...>>>These rides are by their nature…TOUGH! You’re in the high desert here and most of the time above 5000’ altitude. Some going as high as
11,200’! The higher you go, the less O2 is present. Remember this and also always bring the following on your rides…tools, patch kit, spare tubes,
toilet paper, matches, food, snacks, rain gear, GPS or at least a compass, camera, small handpump, plenty of H2O and stamina…cause you’ll need it …
thanks for choosing us and Enjoy!!
